I am reminded of what happened in Europe when Hilter rose to power. Well intentioned and most time cowardly pastors were silent when they saw Jews being dragged off to prisoner camps. They believed that it could never happen to them. How wrong they were. Pastors like Bonhoffer were a chosen few who rose to the occassion and stood up against the godless facsism of his day. But it was too little too late. Past of the problem was that many we duped by Hitler's hollow promises for a better day. He promised that the government would be able to care for all their needs. He lied. and their willingness to accept what he was offering was like cheese to the mouse - the trap was set and they were caught!
We are facing similar days. Politicians are promising paradise and peace and government given prosperity. They are wearing away personal rsponsibility and the need for personal initiative. Those two qualities is the heart and soul of America. We must not forget history and not make the mistake that "it will be different" this time around! As believers we must speak up and point out the historical -- not the hystrerical -- slippery slope that is occuring this election season.
